I bought SPSS 10.0 about ten years ago. Tonight I looked into buying the
latest version and discovered that SPSS is now owned by IBM and that instead of
getting the software on disk I would have to rent it. I don't fit the category
student even though I am a research fellow and I teach/mentor psychology
students in a certification/training program and don't want to spend $250.00 or
more a year to use SPSS.
I'd much rather have a disk with the software like when I first purchased
the product. I was able to install in on two desk tops and two laptops before it
would no longer load. Is something like this possible anymore? Or what other
comparable system exists (to SPSS) that does not bind me to a yearly rental
fee?
I just want a credible, reliable statistical analysis software package that
I can use for the next 5-10 years. Why should anyone have to pay $2500.00 over
ten years to use software that once cost $100.00. I still have 10.0 on my 2006
laptop and guess I will use it until it no longer works since I can't put it on
my new laptop.
I don't like this kind of stranglehold sales tactics!
Thanks!
