SPSS syntax

H. Lawrence Hotchkiss
On learning spss syntax, don't forget two easy ways to do it continually:

    1. Use the Paste button after going through the menus. This puts the
syntax generated by the menus into a syntax editor. You can then
see how to do your analysis with syntax, modify the syntax to suit
revised analyses, and, maybe best of all, save it for a record of
what you did and for easy repeatability later (save syntax also
       possible from the menus).

    2. From the help menu, select "Command Syntax Reference." There also
is a tutorial and a selection called "Topics" that are useful.

There are a coulple of drawbacks of the Paste option. The formatting is not
pretty -- makes it a little awkward to read, and all (most) of the defaults are
pasted explicitly into the syntax, making it necessary to separate the "wheat
from the chaffe."

Dear list,

Can anyone please recommend texts, sites, et al. for learning syntax (i have
a basic level of familiarity with spss syntax and r programming).  In  advance
thank-you kindly for your time and any recommendations.
