Save Translate without the #NULL!

David L. Peck

Is there a way to do a Save Translate to an .xls file, but not have the null values show as #NULL!?

Thanks!

David.

What do you want to see as  values?
What kinds of SPSS values are ending up as #NULLs?
One approach would be to recode values that are being passed a #NULL to something else. What to use are arguments in RECODE would depend on the specifics of your situation.
If you cannot produce the value with with RECODE, you can always RECODE to an arbitrary  specific value and then do a replace in EXCEL to get what you want?

If the variables are numeric, are those #NULLs  coming from values that are sysmis?

recode varlist (sysmis = -99999999) (else = copy) into newvarlist.

If the variables are strings, are those #NULLs  coming from values that are empty or all blanks?
recode varlist ("" = "blank") (else = copy) into newvarlist.
