Send Results of Aggregate directly to Excel

Brian Moore-7
Hi all-

Is this possible to do without creating the .sav file?

*note: I'm using v15 & am proficient with syntax, but don't use scripts
nor python.

Today I:
1- aggregate to another file
2- open that file
3- save translate to excel

to refresh various spreadsheet model assumptions with most recent
transactional data.

Thanks.
Regards,
Brian

Re: Send Results of Aggregate directly to Excel

Peck, Jon
There is no need to create an actual save file.  You can aggregate to a dataset, activate it, and then run save translate on that.

IOW, do something like
DATASET DECLARE aggregated.
AGGREGATE
  /OUTFILE='aggregated'
  /BREAK=educ
  /salary_mean=MEAN(salary).
DATASET ACTIVATE aggregated.
SAVE TRANSLATE ....

HTH,
Jon Peck

Recoding 4 scale variables to ranked variables

Howie Harshaw-2
Hey Folks,

A colleague and I are interested in determining the rank of four scale
variables, but I have had trouble figuring out how to do this.

In a survey of public attitudes about the protection and recovery of
species at risk (or of you prefer, endangered species), respondents
were asked to allocate $100 to four categories of animal species:
- Distinctive species
- Endemic species
- Economically important species
- Rapidly declining common species

We are interested in finding out the rank of these categories of
species for each respondent (n = 555) based on their allocation of the
$100.  For example, if a person allocated their $100 in this manner:
- Distinctive species = $30.00
- Endemic species = $40.00
- Economically important species = $20.00
- Rapidly declining common species = 10.00

then the ranks would be (1) Endemic species, (2) Distinctive species,
(3) Economically important specie, and (4) Rapidly declining common
species.

In cases where the amount of money allocated across categories is
tied, the rank should be he mean of the ranks of the tied entries.

Here is some example data:

Sec08_01        Sec08_02        Sec08_03        Sec08_04
$30.00  $40.00  $20.00  $10.00
$15.00  $30.00  $35.00  $20.00
$10.00  $40.00  $40.00  $10.00
$25.00  $25.00  $25.00  $25.00
$20.00  $25.00  $40.00  $15.00
$10.00  $30.00  $30.00  $30.00
$50.00  $50.00  $.00    $.00
$.00    $25.00  $25.00  $50.00
$20.00  $50.00  $10.00  $20.00
$25.00  $25.00  $25.00  $25.00

I have investigated using RANK, RECODE, and COMPUTE, but have not been
able to some up with anything that works.  I appreciate any help that
you can provide.

- Howie

Re: Recoding 4 scale variables to ranked variables

I don't have the time right now to test this out but try this.
Transpose the data.  See flip or casestovars in help.
use the RANK procedure. use /ties =MEAN which is the default
transpose the data back.
