Dear list!
I have some old Statview files (appr. 1990) on the Mackintosh that must be converted to SPSS-files on Windows. I noticed that SPSS does not read Statview files nor does DMBSCOPY. Thankful for any hints on how to tackle this. best Staffan Lindberg National Institute of Public Health Sweden |

Hi Staffan
You have a little problem, I think. I have taken a look at Stat/Transfer options (the best program for exchange between statistical packages), and it doesn't read Stat/View files. I'm afraid you need StatView to export the file (to CSV or Excel format). If you don't have the program, then you are in trouble. The University of Navarra (where I work) used to have a lot of McIntosh computers with StatView, before switching to SPSS in PCs. There is a chance that some department still keeps one of those old McIntosh stored somewhere. I can ask if you want. If they still have StatView, you can send me the file, I can translate it to CSV or Exce and send it back to you. I'll let you know in some hours. > I have some old Statview files (appr. 1990) on the Mackintosh that must be > converted to SPSS-files on Windows. Hi Marta!
Thank you ever so much! I think the problem is solved. I was somewhat unclear in my question. The StatView program is installed on the Macintosh but not on the PC. I got an answer from Diana Kornbrot. If I understand her correctly I can from StatView use "Save as", choose Excel format and tick a box for windows format and write to diskettes previously formatted on a PC. I will try this when I get the Macintosh (never used one before!) Anyhow thanks for your kind offer. You learn something new every day! best Staffan -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] För Marta Garcia-Granero Skickat: den 19 september 2007 12:27 Till: [hidden email] Ämne: Re: Statview to SPSS Hi Staffan You have a little problem, I think. Hi Staffan:
Do the McIntosh read directly PC formatted diskettes? Time ago they couldn't. There is a program (or used to be, years ago) called MacinDOS that will let you read Mac diskettes in your PC. Mac can read PC formatted discs
Also it can format discs as PC, & then they can be read by PC or MAC diana On 19/9/07 13:01, "Marta Garcia-Granero" <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi Staffan: > > Do the McIntosh read directly PC formatted diskettes? Hi Marta!
I've got some other input. There seems to be other programmes PC-Exchange and DOS-Mounter on Mac that accomplish this although not all OS on MAC support these. I'll see if I can make head or tail of this when I get the Mac next week. It is obviously an old one. I'll keep you posted on what works. best Staffan P.S. Just got a mail from Diana. Obviously it is possible to both format discs as PC and write to them. Hope this is true even for a somewhat older MAC. Anyhow thanks everybody for your input. -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] För Marta Garcia-Granero Skickat: den 19 september 2007 14:02 Till: [hidden email] Ämne: Re: SV: Statview to SPSS Hi Staffan: Do the McIntosh read directly PC formatted diskettes?
