String variables issue

Luís Cardoso
Hi,

Does anyone knows how to fix the following issue:
After (ODBC) importing a DB from Filemaker to SPSS I am having a strange behaviour with string variables. In the SPSS cell the full extent of word is seen (eg, “Insulin”), but in the “Define variables” menu only one letter is seen “I”. These variables are to be recoded, however, if two words start with the same letter the recode will not work properly.

Thank you very much for your help.

Kind regards,
Luis

Are you sure that you are not seeing variable labels generated by the FileMaker import?  Right click in the Variables list and choose names.
