In another thread (http://spssx-discussion.1045642.n5.nabble.com/Can-I-circumvent-running-out-of-RAM-during-a-simulation-study-tp5730121p5730146.html), Jon Peck informed me about the DIGITGROUPING subcommand for SET after I failed to find it myself. (Thanks for that, Jon.)
I would like to think that I would have found it if the subcommands for SET were listed alphabetically in the CSR Manual (aka the FM). But they are not, as shown here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLVMB_20.0.0/com.ibm.spss.statistics.help/syn_set_overview.htm I do realize that subcommands are not listed alphabetically for most other commands either (e.g., I just checked GENLIN, REGRESSION and SAVE). But SET has such a large number of subcommands (over 40 subcommand sections in the FM, with some sections describing 2 or more subcommands) that I think alphabetical order for SET subcommands might facilitate finding things. Jon, Rick...what do you think? Cheers, Bruce

Something Ruben posted in another thread prompted me to go look at the FM entry for SHOW. It has a subsection labeled "Subcommands". It contains an alphabetical list of all of the subcommands for SHOW. I assume they correspond exactly the subcommands for SET. (Is this right, Jon?)

I can't make any promises, but I wouldn't
be surprised if that happens in a future release. :)

Thanks Rick. Meanwhile, I'll try to remember there's an alphabetical list of subcommands under SHOW.

I've been wishing that the SET keywords
were better organized for years, so I'm glad you brought this up. However,
you will find with sufficiently diligent inspection that the sets of SET
and SHOW keywords are not quite the same.
I should also point out that the digit grouping setting is on the first tab of Edit > Options Jon Peck (no "h") aka Kim Senior Software Engineer, IBM [hidden email] phone: 720-342-5621 From: Bruce Weaver <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Date: 07/15/2015 02:02 PM Subject: Re: [SPSSX-L] Suggestion: List subcommands for SET alphabetically in the CSR Manual Sent by: "SPSSX(r) Discussion" <[hidden email]> Something Ruben posted in another thread prompted me to go look at the FM entry for SHOW. Why not take it even further and put EXSMOOTH before EXTENSION instead of after it (CSR 22)?
Also, I feel a handy overview of commands with types and introduction versions is not available anywhere so I wrote one myself and put it here. Or in case the link gets stripped: http://www.spss-tutorials.com/overview-all-spss-commands/. |
