Sum for cases

Dear all,

I need to compute the sum of a single variable for different groups of cases. E.g. assume X is the variable of interest, and I have cases 1 to 10. Now I need to compute the sums of X for cases 1 to 5 and for cases 6 to 10. Which syntax would you recommend?
