Syntax Editor Problem

Stan Gorodenski
For a long time I have had a problem with the syntax editor. When I run
my program, I highlight the part I want to run by pressing ctrl+R. It
takes me to the output screen. When I go back to the syntax editor I
have to be very careful where I click on the screen to continue editing.
If I don't do it right it will delete syntax or move them. I am sure
this has something to do with the settings. Can anyone tell me what to
change in the settings so that I can go back to anyplace in the syntax
editor without affecting the syntax already there?
Stan

This behavior is pretty standard in Windows apps.  Typing when there is already a selection means to replace the selection with the typing.  But remember that Ctrl-z will undo the damage.

Yes, I have to always do the Ctrl+z (when I see something changed), but
I am always concerned I didn't do enough (sometimes I have to do it
twice) and end up saving deleted syntax or garbage. I thought for sure
there was a setting of some kind. I was getting ready to change the
options to Classic SPSS and see what happens but from what you say it
will not work.

Re: Syntax Editor Problem

Rich Ulrich

Remember to notice when you have a selection, and UnSelect by tapping somewhere.

My touchpad gives me a fair number of false selections, though not so many as my

last touchpad.  So I got used to using the "after-accidental-delete" Ctrl-Z  years ago.

The only other advice I think of is, change the colors so that "Selected" is more visible, like, red.
