Hello everybody!
I have a big problem:
I conducted a survey on multicultural teams and now have to analyse the data using the SPSS software. In order to get a diversity measure for nominal variables (such as gender, nationality, ethnicity) I wanted to compute the diversity measure suggested by Teachman (1980). It is used in many team studies to measure the diversity of groups.
However, I have no idea how to "tell" SPSS to do that... I also didn't find any information on the web until now.
The formula is:
H = sum (Pi * ln(Pi))
P is the fraction of members falling into one category of the respective variable (e.g. nationality). "i" is the maximum number of attributes for this variable.
I think, first I would need to make SPSS count/calculate how many diverse values have been reported by respondents for the respective variable in each of my teams.
Does anybody have an idea how to do this? I mean it has been done in many studies, so maybe the syntax for this operation is available somewhere?
Could anyone please help me and tell me the steps which I need to do in order to make SPSS calculate this diversity measure?
I consider myself quite a beginner with SPSS, so I'm grateful for any hints or suggestions...
I am really desperate, because I need this urgently for my final thesis for university :(
Thanks so much for your help!!!!!!!
