hello all,
in GENLIN, for an independent categorical variable, what exactly does the Tests of Model Effects Table calculate by giving one row of Wald chi-square, df and significance p? E.g. for a categorical independent A with 4 levels (with A1 being the reference category), does the Tests of Model Effects Table provide:
a) an “overall” test of the effect of A in the model on the dependent variable D, which tests the joint hypothesis that every one of the four levels of A has the same effect on D, and therefore A does not explain any of the variation in D, and so it is not a significant predictor of D in the model;
OR
b) an “equality” test, which tests the hypothesis that the effects on D of A2 , A3, or A4, respectively, are all equal to each other in this model, but not necessarily equal to the effect of A1?
I thought it was a) the overall effect, but would like some clarification?
Many thanks
