Dear list,
The dataset possibilities are wonderfull. Sometimes however, one wants to
run SPSS as if it does not know the concept. It is said this can be done by
running pre-dataset-style-syntax. This is both true and sort of true. It is
true that the various data-files accessed by the syntax are not handled like
different datasets.
The sort of true part is that the whole proces of opening new data and
closing the old happens in a way that is suited for multiple datasets. This
is harmless for simple syntax on (very) large datasets or manual
manipulation of data via syntax. When using automation on small (or large)
datasets to run syntax that involves lots of datafile switches, SPSS slows
down by 30-50%.
Does anyone know of a system setting/syntax command that allows SPSS 14 to
run as if it does not know anything about multiple datasets, thus completely
handling datafile swithches as before?
Thanks, Alex Rasker
