Unable to save file to desktop - no permission(?)

Roberts, Michael

Good Afternoon List,

I would like to know whether anyone has experienced the following problem:  When saving to my desktop, I am now getting the following message – “C:\Documents and Settings\blah blah blah...  You do not have permissions to save in this directory” ????  I am able to save in any folder on the desktop, however.

I have always been able to save data files on my desktop while I was working, and this message is only with SPSS (ver.17.0.2), and is of recent origin (last month or so).  No other application does this?

Can it be that I have too many desktop icons/folders/objects?  Does anyone know if SPSS has some limiting criteria related to desktop objects?  Also, does Java have anything to do with it?  I believe there have been a few version updates so far.

TIA

Mike

Hi Mike,

I had this problem before in SPSS version 18. However, I was trying to save on the C drive and I am on the administrator account which also shows a message saying that I do not have permission to save on the C drive.

Are you on the administrator account?

Re: Unable to save file to desktop - no permission(?)

Roberts, Michael

Dorraj,

Thank you for your input.  I do have administrator privileges on my machine ( I am able to install software, map drives, etc.), which means I do have permissions for all folders, drives, etc. so I am not sure where this permissions issue is coming from.  This only pertains to SPSS, since I can still save to the desktop from other applications.  I will check the archives to see if anyone else has experienced this issue.

Thank You, again.

Sincerely

Mike
