Hi,
I try to import a SPSS sav file into the R's RKWARD but get an error message. As I don't know whether this is a SPSS or a R question I also post here. The error message reads: Warning in read.spss("C:{file name}.sav", :
I have no clue what a SPSS record type 7 nor its subtypes
might be but maybe someone here ?The data file is a basic Eurobarometer survey, no mixed, hierarchical, nested, grouped or any other special data, just cases by variables. How can I neutralise the error message ? The SPSS Support page did not help me. I read that the error message was just a warning. I don't recall what subtype 18 is, but in most cases, an unrecognized subtype does not affect the data. In my case I get no imported data. The R read.spss function is apparently not up to date and cannot handle this file. If R would use the freely available i/o modules from IBM to read and write sav files, this sort of thing would not happen. Subtype 18 has to do with custom variable metadata, so the data file is valid without it, but some information would be lost (if R could read it at all). If you want to send me your file, I can export it in some other format - say csv or Excel. (Send it to jkpeck AT gmail.com if you want to go this route.) Hi, Did you also try the haven package? I have the impression that this package for reading and writing spss files or sas files is newer and better than read.spss Frans 2015-12-28 18:49 GMT+01:00 news <[hidden email]>:
