Chet, First recommendation: When you send a message in response to another message, but use a different topic, it helps to change the subject line. (those uninterested in the topic
may just delete your new question) Second recommendation: Lurk for a while (read postings without sending a message until you get a sense of the kinds of conversations that occur) and use the archives. (regulars
heave loud sighs at the commonly repeated or unrelated questions) Third recommendation: Say enough in your question so that those who are unfamiliar with your thinking can understand what you are asking. (Assume there are no
mind-readers on the list.) I hope that you have already looked at the introductory info about what SPSSx-L is and how to access the archives. (http://listserv.uga.edu/archives/spssx-l.html)
Use the archives first to see if any question you have about SPSS has already been answered and if not, post the message to the list. Set your status to nomail if you go on vacation (send a message to

To the new members: I cannot stress enough the value of searching the archives. I have been on this list for twelve years now and if I look back at all that
time I can say with confidence that in 9 cases out of 10 I have found the answer to my question by searching the archives. It tells you how many annoyingly repetitive questions never made it to this wonderful forum thanks to the archives. Bozena
