I am pretty sure that v17 does not function as 16 did with respect to an
open database --> new query sequence when one database (excel) has been accessed and a new, different one is to be accessed and that will replace the first database. The specific issue, as near as I can recall, is that with 16 the open database --> new query (ODBC datasource=excel files) <next> opened a browsable window to locate the new database. It could be repeated to open another database. That sequence executes correctly in 17 for the first database selection but does not execute correctly for the second database. In 17 the browsable window does not appear and the program reaccesses the first database. The result is that the program has to be closed and restarted to open a different database. Unless there is some interaction with other settings (which ones?), I am pretty much guessing that this is a 'put up with it issue' that may have been fixed in 18. True? Hello Gene, The failure of the browser window to appear on the second "open database->new query" sequence was filed as a bug in Statistics 17 and fixed in Statistics 18. I've pasted a related resolution below my signature. The resolution presents a work-around for Statistics 17 to avoid closing Statistics between database queries. You can request and browse to an MS Access database file between queries on Excel files. The browser does reappear in subsequent runs when the "ODBC Data Sources" type changes. You can browse to the demo.mdb file that is saved in the Samples directories of your Statistics installation directory, or to any of your own MS Access files. (There is also a demo.xls file in the Samples directories if you need to point the query to an xls file between subsequent Access files.) When the "Select Data" window opens, click the "Back" button and choose "Excel Files" from the list of sources.and then click the "Next" button. The browser window will reappear and allow you to find the next Excel file to open. David Matheson Statistical Support SPSS, an IBM company *******************************************
