Variable View to Data View

Bruce Colton
Hello All - I am attempting a very pedestrian operation that I routinely do without incident, that is, copying a list of variable names in variable view in one spss dataset to data view in another spss dataset.  In this instance, it copies and pastes the first 2108 variable names properly, but the remaining 2000 variable names are not pasted.  I tried pasting it to excel and notebook, and the same result:  the first 2108 variable names were pasted, and the last 2000 names ignored.  It doesn't seem to matter what the actual 2108th and 2109th variable names are; I tried different names with the same result.  Also, trying to paste in variable names 2109 thru 4108 under the 2108th variable didn't work either.  I tried rebooting, no luck.  Has anyone seen this problem before?  Thanks.

Re: Variable View to Data View

Hi,

I never tried what you describe, but you could do it using syntax:

new file.
apply dictionary from = "c:/program files/spss/employee data.sav" / newvars.

Cheers!!

All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
