Weighting Efficiency

Zachary Feinstein
I am pretty well-versed in calculating weights - both cell & rim.  I also am well-versed in calculating the effective n.

I just had a request earlier today for the "weighting efficiency."  Is that simply the effective n divided by the actual n?  Or is it something else?

Thank you very much.

The SPSSINC RAKE command displays the efficiency measure.  You can find the exact definition in the rim weighting short course in the Books & Articles section of the SPSS Community site (www.ibm.com/developerworks/spssdevcentral)

Re: Weighting Efficiency

Hey Jon. Hope all is well. Thank you for connecting with me on LinkedIn too.

I am starting to dabble with R a bit and find it a little fun. Kind of like the old days when I first learned spss syntax. So far I have used it to run a custom macro a friend of mine wrote. The files I use are converted from SPSS to tab-delimited. I am interested in directly reading in the SPSS .sav file (or .por) into my R session to skip over all of that text file stuff. I particularly want to be able to pull in my labels and other such stuff too.

Why am I contacting you? I saw that you commented at least once on the web regarding this exact issue. I tried a few different ways of reading the SPSS data into R and either it did not work or seemed outdated. Different sites provided different ways - from foreign, to memisc, to even another way that does not seem to need any of them. ????

May I ask to be directed to a site, or even an e-mail, with the most up-to-date way to do this? Thank you very much in advance. I promise to return the favor.

Zachary
