I am starting to dabble with R a bit and find it a little fun. Kind of like the old days when I first learned spss syntax. So far I have used it to run a custom macro a friend of mine wrote. The files I use are converted from SPSS to tab-delimited. I am interested in directly reading in the SPSS .sav file (or .por) into my R session to skip over all of that text file stuff. I particularly want to be able to pull in my labels and other such stuff too.
Why am I contacting you? I saw that you commented at least once on the web regarding this exact issue. I tried a few different ways of reading the SPSS data into
R and either it did not work or seemed outdated. Different sites provided different ways - from foreign, to memisc, to even another way that does not seem to need any of them. ????
May I ask to be directed to a site, or even an e-mail, with the most up-to-date way to do this? Thank you very much in advance. I promise to return the favor.
