What's that command

Maguin, Eugene
So, this is kind of embarrassing but I can recall and can't find the name of
a command that is used to   change the defined length of string variable
(among other uses). The syntax goes something like

Xxxxxxx v1 v2 v3(amin).

The name is just not obvious at the moment!

STRING. V1 V2 (a8). .
I know this is needed to define the length of a string variable one is about to compute.
