a bug in SPSS 17 or simple mistake??

Iwase Tamiko
Hi all,

I am trying to run a regression in SPSS 17 and the result keeps
on saying "cannot run. dependent variable has been deleted".

I know the DV is there, and I have double checked numerous times.
I've tried recoding, and still no luck.

Is this a bug or where am I going wrong??

Thank you sooo much for your help, in advance!

Do you have filtered cases that reduce your DV to only 1 response type.

Using the anxiety dataset this code produces your error message

USE ALL.

COMPUTE filter_$=(anxiety=2).

VARIABLE LABEL filter_$ 'anxiety=2 (FILTER)'.

VALUE LABELS filter_$  0 'Not Selected' 1 'Selected'.

FORMAT filter_$ (f1.0).

FILTER BY filter_$.

EXECUTE .

REGRESSION

  /MISSING LISTWISE

  /STATISTICS COEFF OUTS R ANOVA

  /CRITERIA=PIN(.05) POUT(.10)

  /NOORIGIN

  /DEPENDENT anxiety

  /METHOD=ENTER score  .

Now that the dv (anxiety) now only has 1 response option I get your message “The dependent variable Anxiety has been deleted. Statistics cannot be computed.”
