How about posting to the list and telling people what not to do to avoid causing this?

It was not something an individual can control.  In this case, it appears the scanning software a firm was using was blocking messages by "reposting" them to the list.  (Odd and sometimes requires a misconfigured mailer, but ...)  The reposts would appear to come from a legitimate subscriber (the original subscriber, who, of course, never received the message).  I should have checked the timestamp, as I suspect it also would have *appeared* the repost was actually the first post and the real post was the copy.  I'll see about blocking these sites, but that can become involved.


I should add that similar things can happen with addresses used by contractors when the contract expires and they leave: the mail admins pretty much disable the account, but usually seem to have no idea how listservers work, so it may very well be the reposts were an odd way of alerting the list owner the (subscriber) address was no longer valid.
