Hi List -
A colleague has been having problems applying file properties from a data file created in SPSS 15 to a SPSS 16 data file. Below is a recounting of the problem - can anyone offer a solution? Thanks so much! Cher We have been trying to copy over the data properties from another SPSS file created earlier, which has the same item names. When we do this, all 214 labels match up; however, the process always ends with a warning that pops up in the output viewer that states that two or more variables were: An undefined variable name, or a scratch or system variable was specified in a variable list which accepts only standard variables. Check spelling and verify the existence of this variable. This command not executed. When looking at the variables in both the current file and the one with the labels being brought over, neither variable matches what is in the message. The message always contains variables whose names have been truncated by one character. For example, the variable name in both files "source" shows as "sourc" in the output message. This has not happened just once; it has happened several times with different variables and different files. ====================To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. To leave the list, send the command SIGNOFF SPSSX-L For a list of commands to manage subscriptions, send the command INFO REFCARD |

Seeing the syntax would help. If you used the dialog UI, use the Paste button to paste the command syntax.
