In fuzzy/probabilistic record linkage it is common to use blocking variables to reduce the potentially enormous amount of record comparisons. The assumption is that the blocking vars contain no errors. But since this is unlikely, one usually does several linkages, with several different blocking variables. Maybe that process is called blocking strategy. I've heard about a linkage or a close strategy, but not of a blocking strategy. Sounds like a good term to increase my nerd rating. ;-) Cheers!!
