computational requirements

Susan-59
I have large number of cases from my simulation work (> 5, 000, 000). I had
trouble finding a computer on campus that could handle even simple compare
means commands using all the cases. I am going to purchase a new computer but
am not sure what to look for to have a computer that will be able to have the
processing speed and/or the working memory necessary to handle the large
number of cases that I will be using. I was wondering if anyone had any
recommendations they could offer regarding what specs I could look for in a
new computer to best handle large case computations. I know the new Windows 7
is out,but I worry about software compatibility issues. Any thoughts on best
operating systems would also be appreciated. I do not use a Mac nor Linux. I
want to stay within Windows.
Thank you.
