conjoint analysis

E. Bernardo
Hi all,

I am using the syntax below to conduct group conjoint analysis.  Religion consists of five categories.

CONJOINT PLAN 'c:\Eins\Design.sav'
   /DATA  'c:\Eins\data.sav'
   /RANK = com_1 to com_12
   /SUBJECT=religion
/FACTORS CurrOff(discrete) Tuition(discrete less) Location Program Prof Instruction Facility ClassSched
  /PLOT SUMMARY.

What shall be added to the syntax so that a file containing the following will be created? importance score, standard devistion of importance scores, utilities and standard devision of the utilities.  The goal is to subsequently conduct ANOVA of such variables.

Thank you.
Eins

Re: conjoint analysis

We are not sure if we recommend to purchase SPSS Conjoint for our organization.  We have tried to run conjoint analysis using version 17 demo copy but we are not successful.  We need a customize outputs so we asked to modify the syntax.  We wish to hear comments of folks from SPSS, Inc?

Re: conjoint analysis

SPSS Support

Hello Eins,

Utilities can be saved to a file using the UTILITY subcommand ( /utility = ‘<filename>’), but their standard errors (SEs)  are not saved there. You would have to use OMS (Output Management System) commands to save utilities with their standard errors and also to save importance scores to a data file. There are no SEs available for importance scores.

OMS will save contents of a pivot table in the output to a data file. OMS commands can be built with the aid of the OMS Control Panel in the Utilities menu. See the chapter for the OMS command in the Help->Command Syntax Reference guide for an overview of that system.

I did two experiments and found different results!  Here are the experiments:

Experiement #1:  I sorted first the data by "caseID", where CaseID is the unique ID of the respondents.  Then, using caseID as subject, I successfully run the syntax and saved the utilities.  I think it is called individual conjoint analysis.  Subsequently, using such utilities data , I computed the utilities for the gender, marital status, and religion groups.

Experiment#2:  I sorted the data by gender and run the syntax using gender as subject.  I did the same for the other grouping variables..

I wonder why the results of the two experiemnts are different.  Kindly explain.

Eins

Thanks.

However, I found that when I used that utilities to compute for the utilities of gender.
