correlation coefficient different samples

abdalla alsmadi-2

Hi everybody

i have two scales data sets both of the are related with children

but the first scale ( how the parents deal with the child) was given to the parents to respond

and the other scale ( to what extent the child is aggressive) was given to the teachers to respond

the question

can i investigate the relationship between parental style and child's aggression

even though they are two different samples who respond the scales???

thanks a lot

Re: correlation coefficient different samples

If you have records that can be paired up - of course you can look at
relationships.

But, from my little knowledge of the subject, this looks (pardon me)
like an attempt to "design a study" as coursework, because children
are notorious for exhibiting different aspects of behavior when one
compares home to school.  That is why protocols for clinical diagnoses
for Hyperactivity or for Attention Deficit Disorder insist on considering
both environments.

The design would have more potential for useful conclusions if it also
included matched ratings of "bad behaviors" by both sets of raters,
home and school.
