The easiest way to do this is to use
Define Variable Properties. It will show you a list of the actual
distinct date values, and you can assign missing codes by selecting them
in the grid.
SPSS date variables have values in seconds,
so it is hard to assign these in the Data Editor or via syntax, but DVP
takes care of this for you.
You may need to increase the value count
in the starting dialog for DVP.
If your dates are actually string values,
DVP will still display them in a grid, and you can select accordingly.

I have a large data set with a date variable, formatted
dd.mm.yy
I can't figure out what to do with missing values - trying to add a value
through variable view doesn't work. Any clues?
