Jennifer,
SPSS calculates the inter-quartile range (IQR) as part of the boxplot in
Explore/Examine. Values more than 1.5 IQR's but less than 3 IQR's from
the end of the box are labeled as outliers (O). Values more than 3 IQR's
from the end of the box are labeled as extreme (E).

Subject: definition of outliers
Hi Everyone,
Any idea how SPSS defines "outliers"? Is it any values greater or less
than two standard deviations from the mean, 1.5 standard deviations from
the mean, or other value? Thanks. Jennifer Fogarty
