error in installation of python?

Today I tryed to reinstall python 2.6. Before I use spss 17.0.0 and used python 2.5 under windows vista.
I removed 2.5 and installed 2.6 Then, even if I run a trivial program fails:
begin program.
print "boe"
end program.

Now spss/python reports "running begin program", reports begin program and 'print "boe"' in the log and hangs. There is nothing else in spss.jnl.
I removed python 2.6, removed all references in the register, reinstalled 2.6, and the same problem occurs. What am I doing wrong? Or is spss 17.0.0 and python 2.6 nog a good combination?

You can have Python 2.5 and 2.6 installed simultaneously, but SPSS 17 requires 2.5.  Version 18 will move to 2.6.  Installing the plugin for either version should stop if the required version is not found, but apparently you removed 2.5 after installing the plugin.
