export to xls

Hi all,

I have to export some databases from spss to an excel file in different
sheets. So far so good, but if I have a string variable, when exporting, it
does not save the whole string, but only the first letter and format the
cell in the excel file as text. What can I do in order to save the whole
string?

Here is part of the export syntax:

save translate
 /connect= 'dsn=excel files;dbq=c:\documents and
settings\ay08418\desktop\data\test.xls'
 /table=!quote(!n)
 /type=odbc
 /replace.

Any suggestions?
