Hello,
I'm using PASW 17 for Mac---I'm trying to select cases for exploratory analyses. I want to filter out cases who are either a 4 or a 3 on a certain variable. When I filter out for 1 value (e.g 4) it works fine but when I try 2 values---it only filters out 1 case (which is blank for that variable). The expression I used [in the dialogue box] was "select cases if": Discipline ['not equal' symbol]|Discipline ['not equal' symbol]4 I also tried Discipline ["not equal" symbol] ANY(3,4) here's the syntax (but I'm not a syntax expert): USE ALL. COMPUTE filter_$=(Discipline ~= 4 | Discipline ~= 3). VARIABLE LABEL filter_$ 'Discipline ~= 4 | Discipline ~= 3 (FILTER)'. VALUE LABELS filter_$ 0 'Not Selected' 1 'Selected'. FORMAT filter_$ (f1.0). FILTER BY filter_$. EXECUTE. [and] COMPUTE filter_$=(Discipline ~= ANY(3,4)). VARIABLE LABEL filter_$ 'Discipline ~= ANY(3,4) (FILTER)'. VALUE LABELS filter_$ 0 'Not Selected' 1 'Selected'. FORMAT filter_$ (f1.0). FILTER BY filter_$. EXECUTE. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Libby: If a case has discipline = 3 or discipline = 4 you want to drop
it from the analysis, correct? If so, try this: COMPUTE useit = 1. IF ANY(discipline,3,4) useit = 0. FILTER by useit. EXECUTE. Your logic in the code is having trouble with NOT and OR— COMPUTE filter_$=(Discipline ~= 4 | Discipline ~= 3). Cases are coded “1” if either of the conditions is
true—so every case will be selected. --jim From: SPSSX(r) Discussion

Hello, I am trying to run a PLS command and got an error. I don’t
know what it means. I ran this… PLS V1 MLEVEL=S WITH V2 V3 V4 V5 V6 V7 V8 /CRITERIA LATENTFACTORS=5. And all I got was this… [PLS_active_data_0.0964128974894_design]
global name 'linalg' is not defined Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks. RG Rodrigo A. Guerrero | Director Of Marketing Research and
