importing a sas data file

Maguin, Eugene

My question is how to know the encoding on a sas data file. I guessed utf8 when I imported a sas file and it didn't fail so i guessed correctly, but how do i determine that or is this either a google question or a sas community question?

Thanks, Gene Maguin

A SAS data file should carry its encoding information in the file, so you should  not need to specify it yourself.
