insert and saving in 16

Nancy Darling-2
I have two minor issues with SPSS 16.0, which I recently installed.

First, the insert key does not work in Syntax.  I have many very long
syntax files where I copy blocks of code and  then change part of a
variable name.  Insert is useful, but isn't working in SPSS only on
either of my Windows machines.  Is there a trick to turning it on?

Second, I often want to create a new dataset by selecting some of my
data and then saving that subsample.  I used to be able to do this by
just saving as (sometimes with disastrous results if I just saved).  Now
I can't do it at all.  I'm sure there's a way to save a subsample.  How?

Thank you!
