interrupt SPSS process?

Ian Martin-2
Is there a keyboard or perhaps syntax command to interrupt SPSS
processing?  I'm a syntax klutz, and managed to send it off in a loop
or something yesterday, and ended up force quitting -- losing some
edits.

regards,
Ian

Yes with some caveats. Ctrl-period will stop the backend engine (the thing
that executes your syntax). It will not stop actions in the viewer window
such as generating output. Also, if the backend is in a very
tight-processing loop, you may have to wait a very long time for it to honor
the Stop Processor command because it's busy trying to calculate something.
If SPSS is in a completely frozen state it will never poll for the Stop
Processor event. If you can't drop down the File menu where the command
lives, you can't stop the processor through the keyboard.

Note that any syntax that did run will most likely be in the journal file.
