In response to a post on one of the sci.stat.* newsgroups, I suggested a
chapter in the SPSS Base Users Guide. When I looked for the .pdfs I could not find them for the complete guide let alone the individual chapters. The Algorithms are online. Are the chapters of the Base Users Guide and Command Syntax online? If so what are the links. Others might find this hint useful. In the past I could not find the chapters as separate documents online or on the CD. When I needed a specific chapter as a separate file, I selected the chapter in Adobe Reader, and printed it to a pseudo printer such as CutePDF. ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. To leave the list, send the command SIGNOFF SPSSX-L For a list of commands to manage subscriptions, send the command INFO REFCARD

All the manuals are available in PDF form on the Manuals CD. Additionally, the Command Syntax Reference PDF is installed with the product and is avaibable from the Help menu. All of the syntax documentation is also available in the main help system. The fastest way to get help on any particular command syntax topic is to type the command name in the syntax editor window and click F1.
Virtually all the material in the Base User's Guide -- and a lot more -- is available in the main help system. It's even presented in the same order. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Art Kendall Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2008 7:03 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: links to online pdf for chapter in SPSS base user manual. Thanks for your reply.
The manuals are on the CD that comes with the software. In fact they are there for all the modules even if you don't have the license to activate some modules. Some IT departments actually withhold the manuals from the users! Some people do not yet have SPSS, this is often the case on the Sci.stat.* newsgroups, and the SRMSNET and CLASS_L discussion groups The algorithms are available on the web. That availability is very helpful. I thought that maybe by now they would put the other manuals by chapter on the web. In the past when I want a few chapters, e.g., for a workshop on clustering, SPSS said that I could just pass them out. I can extract chapters from the whole manual in a few minutes, and send them to people who post on lists. However, It would be a lot easier to send a link or directions on how to access the info the way anybody can access the algorithms. I think that the links to online docs have changed. You have to explicitly
go to support for Students to see them. With the complete revamping of the site to use asp pages, URLs no long reflect where you are really at but try this link to get there: http://support.spss.com/Student/Studentdefault.asp There is a link on the left for Documentation. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Art Kendall Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2008 8:58 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: links to online pdf for chapter in SPSS base user manual.
