little problem in spss 16 with visat ultimate 32

Leo Bakker
Dear list,

a couple of days ago there was the following question from Art Kendall:

I have been having 2 glitches using SPSS 16 under Vista 64 Ultimate.
1). When I use Explorer to navigate to a file, e.g., .sps or .sav, and
then double click it, it starts SPSS, and opens the file. However, it also
brings up a pop-up that says the file cannot be found. It obviously found
the file because it opens it. I work around it by <ok>ing the pop-up.

Having the same problem with SPSS 16 under vista 32 Ultimate I was very
happy with his question.
But I haven't seen a reaction in the list.
Is there a solution for this problem?

Thanks,

Leo

Re: problem opening files by double-clicking in windows explorer

lts1
Hi Leo & All,

I'm having a similar problem, and I'm using v15.01.01 on XP Pro. Here's what
happens to me:

If I double click a file in windows explorer, sometimes I get an empty SPSS
data editor with a file-not-found error message, and sometimes I just get an
empty SPSS window. In either case, I have to double click the file name a
second time to open it. Also, I get the error message if I start SPSS by
double clicking the icon on my desktop and picking a file name from the
recently used list.

As for a solution, honestly, I usually just ignore the problem, acknowledge
the error message and double clicking twice in explorer. However, I have
noticed that if I have SPSS up and running, I can click whatever I want and
it opens without any problems. So that might provide a clue to a work around
for you. Try opening SPSS first, then open your file in the way that's most
convenient for you.

I hope this helps.

    Best,
        Lisa
