Hi -
I recently moved from SPSS 15 to SPSS 16. I am doing a very simple
hierarchical linear model with 5 predictors. When moving the SPSS table
output to a Word table for final submission and formatting, I will
typically copy the SPSS table output into Exel to clean up the
formatting, relabel the variables, etc. Then I copy the formatted text
from Excel into Word.
In order to transfer text from SPSS pivot table output into another
file, I have always (1) opened the pivot table (2) selected the cells,
columns, or table I need and (3) copied the text and pasted into the
other program using "paste special". Pasting into either Excel or Word
tables has always worked fine.
Today, I did this repeatedly with simple regression pivot table output.
No problem. I then moved to a hierarchical regression in which the
pivot table had output from two models. The pivot table output looked
identical. However, once I opened the pivot table and selected the
columns I wanted to copy, my CPU usage shot up to 100% (it had been
under 4%) and I got that typical "I'm overworked" fan sound from my
computer. All SPSS windows went light blue, indicating they were not
re-writing. When I pasted my selected text into Excel, it had only
copied one cell.
I can get SPSS to show my screens again if I run my mouse over the menus
and then click on 'View'. However, CPU usage remains at 100% until I
close all SPSS windows. When I have reopened SPSS and try the procedure
again, I get identical results. I have waited over 20 minutes for CPU
usage to go down, but no joy.
This is not a powerful computer, but this seems to be a trivial task
that should not be taxing it (and CPU usage was very low prior to the
copy). When I look at the Windows task window (I am using XP), all the
CPU demand is from SPSS.
Any idea of what is going on? This is a task I perform very frequently.
Nancy
