Hi all,
I'm fairly new to SPSS, as well as to this group. So please forgive me if my
question has been asked and answered before.
I now have a database of 720 cases. I want to conduct the factor analysis
with 41 variables. However, all the variables contain missing values.
Some are Planned
Missing Values and some are Unplanned Missing Value. Therefore, the sample
size of each variable ranges from about 300 to 450. I first ran the factor
analysis and chose to exclude cases with missing value listwise. The
results make not much sense. Then I ran the factor analysis and chose to
replace the missing values with mean. This time, the factors generated seem
to make some sense. But I still want to check with you, SPSS Pros, whether
it is proper to replace the missing values with mean in this case. If not,
will appreciate if you could share other better approaches.
Thanks a lot!
best,
Helene
