Ta da -- we will be moving to version 15 from version 11.5.
I vaguely remember there being some kind of comparison of versions available from spss that described new functions. But, that's very fuzzy. I'm looking for something that will highlight the different functionality in 15 so we start taking advantage of what the new version offers. Thanks. Something else that would be interesting to know is what doesn't work as
it's supposed to on 15. The best example I know of is the search and replace problem on 14. In spite of two patches, the problem was never fixed (and, I'll bet, never will be either). On 13, there was minor problem with printing syntax files. Some people on the list have reported that 15 is considerably slower that 14 but I can't say. Gene Maguin |
Thanks for the heads up.

Well, we have already identified that the Variable list button doesn't
allow you to go to the variable name as you type. In addition... The Text Wizard (under Read Text Data) has been less and less functional since 11.5. First in V12, you could no longer use <Ctrl> Click to select multiple (non-contiguous) variables in Step 5 (e.g. if you wanted to change more than one date variable from string to date format, you were now required to do each one separately). Then in V13 and 14, editing at .tpf file would not work (e.g. if you changed one variable format in the template, then all date and string variables were reset to numeric thereby replacing the response with system missing.) (I have had a support case open since version 12 was issued.) Is this the search and replace bug?
------------------------------------------------- Using the Find feature does not find the first character of the first line in the syntax editor. Open the syntax editor. Enter some text. For instance, 'GET FILE'. Use Find (i.e., Edit->Find, or clicking the Binoculars in the toolbar) on the string value "get" the application responds with a "Not Found" message. If I then put either a single extra space or an extra line before the GET FILE command, then the Find function can find the "get" string. ------------------------------------------------- It was fixed in 15 and verified. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Gene Maguin Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2007 2:33 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: moving to version 15 Something else that would be interesting to know is what doesn't work as it's supposed to on 15. Melissa and Gene,
I'd like to invite both of you to be beta testers for the next release of SPSS. The beta is scheduled for Spring 2007. Beta testers give us feedback on new features and help us catch and prevent these types of issues. With each new release of SPSS we add many new features that users ask for and fix problems that may exist as well. Unfortunately, with a product as complicated and complex as SPSS sometimes things get broken that we don't find out about until the product gets into the field. While our current group of external beta testers do a great job of testing, we can always use more testers. Regards. .......on a positive note, for whatever reason, at least for v 13 and I think 12 when you wanted to cut and paste an entire output (e.,g GLM) with graphics into a WORD document, you could not do so..you had to append the graphics separately from the output tables...with v15 it resumes what use to be the case for v11 (or so) and you can append the entire output (ctrl-k)
