multiple response set bar chart

Miriam L. Gerver
Hi all,

I have a survey with a multiple response item that that was broken down into
individual dichotomoous (0/1) variables and then grouped back into a
multiple response set to get a frequency table. Is there any way for me to
produce a bar chart of this information? I've searched the SPSSX-L archives
and haven't found anything that tells me exactly how this can be done. I
don't have the extra SPSS-Tables module which I've seen referenced.

Thanks,
Miriam Gerver

Re: multiple response set bar chart

Peck, Jon
If you have SPSS 14 or 15, you can use multiple response sets directly in the Chart Builder - just drag the set onto the canvas.  The Custom Tables option is not required for this.  We moved MR set definition into the Base when enabling MR sets in the ChartBuilder.

Hi Jon,

I tried that (I have SPSS 14), but it didn't seem to work right. I selected
the MR set and dragged and dropped it in the X axis, but it displayed the
graph like a single dichotomous variable rather than multiple dichotomous
variables. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

This is my syntax to create the MR item. Maybe I'm doing something wrong
here, but I don't know what it would be:

MRSETS
  /MCGROUP NAME=$roleindepartment LABEL='Q5 Please select your role within'+
 ' your department' VARIABLES=Q5FireChiefNum Q5DeputyFireChiefNum
  Q5AssistantFireChiefNum Q5FireCaptainNum Q5FireFighterNum
  Q5ProGrantWriterNum Q5GrantWriterNum Q5Otheryn
  /DISPLAY NAME=[$roleindepartment].

Thanks,
Miriam
