 Dear SPSS listers,
Is there an efficient way to write a syntax for estimating multiple
responses especially if you do not have SPSS 12 or higher? I have indicator
variables for race: White, Black, Asian, American Indian, Native Hawaiian.
'1' implies that the individual endorsed the category, and '0' implies did
not endorse. Thanks

if I recall correctly, MULT RESPONSE was available before any of the PC
versions of SPSS.
I was able to find a version 9 manual which has MULT RESPONSE.
Something like this untested syntax should work. You only need the race
by race table if people endorsed more than one.

mult response /groups = race 'which race categories endorsed' (White to
NativeHawaiian (1))
  /variable=gender(1,2)
 /frequencies= race gender
 /tables= race by race /
               race by gender.
