Dear list,
I installed a client version of PASW 18.0, and it seems to work. I can
open my “old” data files (up to now I used SPSS11), and the syntax
files seem to do their jobs as expected, although I found discrepancies between
the outputs. Before going deeper into the new features I thought it might be a
good idea to patch with 18.0.3 before installing python etc. But unfortunately
I get an error message that tells: The application has failed to start because the application
configuration is incorrect - and I’m advised to reinstall the software. I
tried it several times with no success. Version 18.0 runs, while 18.0.3
doesn’t. I’m running it on XP professional version 2002 SP3; I have
the correct patch for the 32-bit system. At first I installed it on partition
D, finally thought there may be a routine in the patch that expects to access a
file on “c:\...” – so I uninstalled from d: and installed on
C: to the path suggested by default resulting in the same error message as
before.
In the archives a similar problem with patch 18.0.2 was posted and I
contacted the author but what helped her didn’t help me. Patches 18.0.1
and 18.0.2 seem to be no longer available from the SPSS support site, so I
couldn’t check if the older patches would work.
Unfortunately I’m the only user of SPSS in our house, so I do not
have the support as in former times at the university.
Do you have any suggestions what to try further? All input is welcomed.
Thanks a lot & greetings from a snow-covered (in parts at least)
