query about discrete choice modelling (when is spss going to offer this)

paulandpen
Hi all,

I am disappointed that spss have not developed in this area (suite of discrete models), and continue to roll out the same old conjoint module time and time again!!!!

Are there any plans to launch discrete choice modelling models in future releases?

I have been reviewing all the different software for choice modelling and cannot decide on what would offer me the broadest set of modelling capabilities and at the same time ease of use.

Do people have a default package that you use or recommend for this type of analysis?

Sawtooth
NLogit
LatentChoice
Biogeme
Open sourced R

Sorry if this is off list spec.

Regards Paul

For discrete choice models you may want to take a look at the transport
literature.  A Self Instructing Course in Mode Choice Modeling:
Multinomial and Nested Logit Models, prepared for U.S. Department of
Transportation, Federal Transit Administration, F.S. Koppelman and C.
Bhat, 2006.  Available from
http://www.civil.northwestern.edu/people/koppelman.html

If we are talking about the same types of models, then:
  ALOGIT
  LIMDEP
  ELM
are the packages mentioned in the publication.

I haven't used ELM. ALOGIT is probably the best package if you have
hundreds or even thousands of alternatives (typical in transport with
nested logit models). LIMDEP contains many other types of econometric
models.

Cheers

Frank
