seeking help in viewing output labels in an alphabetical order - reply

thara vardhan-2
Hi Elaine, Anil and Michael

Thanks for responding to my plea for help with the above.

Unfortunately Michael - I have already tried your suggestion. What that
does is to list the variables alphabetically within the working file and
does not change the output labels.

Anil - the syntax you sent may help me but I use ctables and have 65
locations by which the data is presented from an aggregated data file. So
I am not aware of how to combine the two.

My table syntax is as follows:

* Custom Tables.
CTABLES
  /VLABELS VARIABLES=percentsatisfy lower upper POLREGX DISPLAY=DEFAULT
  /TABLE POLREGX BY percentsatisfy [MINIMUM] + lower [MINIMUM] + upper
  [MINIMUM]
  /CATEGORIES VARIABLES=POLREGX ORDER=A KEY=VALUE EMPTY=INCLUDE
  /TITLES
   TITLE= 'NSW July07TOJune 08 - RQ4E - Percentage of respondents
satisfied in'+
 ' general with the services provided by Police'
   CAPTION= 'Source: National Community Satisfaction with Policing
Services'+
 ' Survey June 2008'.

Looks like Elaine's suggestion is the best option for me. Yes Elaine I do
need the labels as given by the consultant because I have to calculate
values for each area.. I will have to try the If statements suggested by
you.

At the moment I am exporting SPSS output into excel and sorting it in
Excel. But then I have around 45 tables that I have to sort each quarter.
I just wanted to find a more permanent solution within SPSS.

Once again thank you all very much for helping me with the problem.

Re: seeking help in viewing output labels in an alphabetical order - reply

Peck, Jon
I'm not sure about the original question, but if you are just trying to have your Ctables categories in alphabetical order by label, just change
KEY=VALUE
to
KEY=LABEL
on the Categories subcommand.

HTH,
Jon Peck
