spss activator licensing method

Paul Mcgeoghan
Hi,

Does anyone use the following method of licensing when licensing a classroom of PCs for example?

For SPSS we have a site license and authorisation code.

So I have the following simple batch file which has the following command:

c:
cd "\Program Files\SPSS 14"
spssactivator authorisation code

This method has been working for 18 months but has recently stopped working in the past month or so.

If anyone else uses this licensing activation method, can you let me know if it works or not for you?

Note, on the same PCs, I can manually go to each PC and run the license authorisation wizard itself and it will activate successfully via the internet and using the site license authorisation code.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I haven't had this problem, but I've had a different one trying to relic. my copy of v14. I used the Lic. authorization wizard and received the standard, you're ok, please restart SPSS message. When I do, I get the expired lic warning. If I open a syntax window and type "show lic."  It still shows an expiration date of 01-Mar-2008. However, if I got to the SPSS root directory on my hard drive (c:/program files/spss) and run "showlic.exe." It shows an expiration date of 01-Jan-2009. Have you had anything like this happen?

    Best,

Re: relicensing SPSS v14

Hi,

I had a somewhat similar problem with SPSS 15.  My university installed a site copy on my laptop as I am an external student.  However every day I opened SPSS I had to rerun my licence file.  I also am running vista and this is where the problem lies, so I'm not sure if this also applies in your situation.  There is a Vista Hotfix that will remedy this problem (google search will find it).  If this is the case and you can't find it let me know and I will retrace my steps.

Regards,
Paola

I had this issue plenty of times with SPSS 15 (and they all occurred for
different reasons). The first time was because my hard drive crashed.
Anytime something drastic happens to your computer, the license key will
automatically change which would cause your SPSS software key and the key
stored on your hard drive to be mismatch. I had used up all my license
authorizations so I had to call SPSS for help.  The second time it happened,
was because I move to Vista. There's a Vista hotfix that I had to apply and
it took care of it. The most recent time that this occurred was because of
Daylight Savings Time change. When you call SPSS, they have it on their
greeting (before you even get to a technician), there's patch for this on
the SPSS Support site as well. If this occurred fairly recently, more than
likely it's the DST change. You should be able to download a patch to remedy
it.

Good Luck!

My thanks to all who replied. I found the problem. It became evident when I
carefully examined the lservrc file. Althought I was told that the the lic.
renewal code I was issued was for v14, in fact, it was for v15. Thanks
again.

    Best,
        Lisa
