spss/de-1993 version

lscfung
Hi all:

I have a very old MSDos version of SPSS-data entry,

try to install in my new PC which is running Vista. Installation

procedure is fine, except that when I try to click on

SPSSDE.EXE, I got a message saying that

it is not a valid WIN32 application.

Is there any way that I can make it work? In my other

older PC, usually, I go to MSDos, then type:

SPSSPC/DE

then it will bring up the SPSS data entry screen but

it doesn't work on this newer PC.

      Thank you very much.

Linda

For how long do you want to use it?  Why don't you try the trial
version of SPSS DE for windows.  When I installed it sometime October
2008, it expired January 2009.

Problems with PASW Output

Hello dear spsslisters,

I am having a problem viewing my output since I have upgraded to PASW.
It appears all chopped up and impossible to read. It is a real problem
because I cannot view error messages.

Any help to come?

Thanks

Can you be a bit more descriptive of what you are seeing--I haven't noticed
any difference in the look of things in the viewer window between this
update and my previous version. Perhaps it's something to do with specific
commands?

Hello Matthew and Heidi (and anyone else experiencing this problem)

If you print the output, does the printed output appear garbled and/or truncated as well?
If you save the output, close that output file and then reopen it, is the output still garbled or truncated in the viewer?
If you click on a garbled or truncated line in the viewer, is that line restored?
Does resizing the viewer window change the output (for better or worse)?

Re: Problems with PASW Output

Heidi Green
On Friday, I tried to replicate this problem with no luck. Today it has
been happening a lot. It appears to occur when I have a long section of
LOG output that is not broken up by frequencies or charts. The output
appears fine until I reach the end of the part that is visible on my
screen at any given time. Then when I try to scroll (either using the
mouse scroll bar or the scroll bar on the right of the output window),
some of the lines are cut in half. Sometimes I see the top half of the
line, sometimes the bottom half. Clicking inside the "box" of output
just brings me back up to the top, and scrolling back down creates the
problem again. (So I can't actually click on the line to see if it is
restored).

Resizing the output window makes the problem occur in different spots.
Closing and re-opening did not clear it up. Double clicking into the
output LOG and then scrolling does not help either.

The output printed fine, but printing it made me waste 6 pages of paper,
so it is not a viable solution to print all my output instead of just
looking at it on the screen.

I hope this helps to narrow the problem down a bit. I am happy to send a
sample of the output to support, but do not want to send it out via the
list due to confidentiality.

Thanks for the additional information, Heidi. A bug has been filed for this problem and a resolution has been entered in the support web site ( http://support.spss.com ). I've pasted the resolution below. ViAnn also suggested viewing the output in Print Preview as a work-around.

David Matheson
SPSS Statistical Support

Resolution number: 83094  Created on: Apr 10 2009  Last Reviewed on: Apr 10 2009

Problem Subject:  Text output is corrupted or not visible within Statistics 17.0.2

Problem Description:  I have run a LIST command within my newly patched PASW Statistics 17.0.2 program and now I see strange results in my text output. If I scroll through the data, lines of the output become appear to be partially hidden or truncated. If I try to get around this problem by viewing the output in a separate window, portions of the text will disappear when I click on them.

How can I get my text output to display correctly?

Resolution Subject: Pending - Workaround Available

Resolution Description:

This problem has been reported to SPSS Development - Workaround available

This issue is concerned with editing large text output objects, either within the Viewer or in a separate window. Ultimately, this becomes a refresh issue. If the output is small enough, it is an easy thing to simply cut and paste into a text editor. Alternatively, you might force a refresh by accessing one of the menus within the active window. for instance, you are scrolling through some LIST output and the text becomes cut in half. Simply accessing the Edit menu should force a refresh and make your text readable once more. The simple act of drawing the menu dropping down, refreshes the rest of the screen.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

right click in syntax (spss v15)

Brian Moore-7
Hi all-

I've lost the functionality of being able to right click in syntax.  For
example run highlighted without having to mouse to the top.

Anyone else had this problem?
The only thing that's changed that I know of is that our company just
upgraded to office 2007.

Anyway -mainly just venting, but if someone knows why or how to fix it
I'd love to.
Thanks,
Brian

Re: right click in syntax (spss v15)

Peck, Jon
Just a guess, but in 15 the syntax editor uses the Microsoft RichEdit control for that Window, and I think MS changed the control.  If you don't have the last 15 patch - 15.0.2, I think, that might help.

Regards,
Jon Peck
