statistical methodologies to separate variable

jimjohn
In my dataset, i have the following variables: Balance, Amount Liquidated, Liq Rate, and Incentive.
Liq Rate is the amount liquidated divided by the balance
I am trying to measure the relationship between Liq Rate and Incentive
Most likely, there is some portion of liq rate (maybe 3-4%) that is not related to incentive (ie this amount gets liquidated no matter what happens with the incentive), while the remaining liq rate does correlate with incentive.

can anyone think of any statistical methdologies i could employ in spss to calculate how much is core liquidation? waht i tried already is i tried out different numbers for core liquidation, so i would try core liquidation of 3% and then remove that from the amount liquidated and calculate a new liq rate for non-core liquidation. i would then test to see waht the correlation is between teh new liq rate and incentive. if its high enough, and the core liq did not correlate with incentive, then that is my core liq number to use. but i was just wondering if there was something else i could try that might be quicker and more effective. any ideas? thx!
