suggestion regarding importing data via menus

Maguin, Eugene

From the menus the sequence File --> Import data --> Text data activates the Get Data command. The Get data command but not the menus includes the subcommand string Multiplespaces ignore=no/yes, which controls the treatment of consecutive blank spaces. I think that subcommand should be accessible from the menus.

I just had a little educational experience about this and, if you know the documentation, you know the story, but if you rarely use Gen data, you don’t and then you get an unpleasant surprise when you read back a file written using Write outfile.

Yeah, yeah, Save translate maybe wouldn’t write in a fixed format but I think the menus should have greater flexibility.

I think you are referring to the MULTIPLESPACES setting introduced in V24.
That does seem to be missing from the text wizard.  It would be useful to add that.
