Can anyone suggest a good online course on SPSS basics which is either accessible any time or will be starting within the next three months?
We are more interested in the basics of building and cleaning data, syntax, and output files, using SPSS functions like labels, values, missing values, etc., than any specific statistical procedures. We are, of course, prepared to pay for it. Thanks so much in advance for any references. If no course is available, I have found Jacqueline Collier's "Using Spss Syntax: A Beginner's Guide", published by SAGE, to be a good source.
Since these more practical aspects are often not covered in statistics courses, some weeks ago I set up a series of screencasts focusing on practicalities in SPSS on vimeo.com (https://vimeo.com/showcase/4734529). Unfortunately somewhat inaccessible for those who don't speak Swedish I guess... I have also seen that a company here in Sweden called Statistikakademin delivers courses on SPSS syntax, and I would expect they could adapt these for an English speaking audience. Hi
I'm running my annual SPSS syntax course in early January, and this year cos of COVID it will be live streamed online - details here: http://offbeat.group.shef.ac.uk/FIO/training120121.htm It covers everything you mentioned, ie building and cleaning data, syntax, and output files, using SPSS functions like labels, values, missing values, etc. I also offer it on an inhouse basis (and run it regularly for Universities and government depts): details here - http://offbeat.group.shef.ac.uk/FIO/bespoketraining.htm cheers Chris On 11/11/2020 14:27, Robert Lundqvist wrote: > If no course is available, I have found Jacqueline Collier's "Using Spss Syntax: A Beginner's Guide", published by SAGE, to be a good source. > > Since these more practical aspects are often not covered in statistics courses, some weeks ago I set up a series of screencasts focusing on practicalities in SPSS on vimeo.com (https://vimeo.com/showcase/4734529). My course Survey Analysis Workshop (SPSS) [https://surveyresearch.weebly.com/1-survey-analysis-workshop-spss.html] starts from absolute scratch. It is mostly syntax based and covers everything you ask about, plus some basic tabulation, but not advanced mathematics.
